Yiddish Song Workshop II
The many faces of Yiddish song
August 10 – 15
3 – 6 p.m.

with Sasha Lurje (LV/D; voice) & Patty Farrell (USA/D; accordion)

We often refer to "Yiddish song" as a simple category, but is it really? In fact, the repertoire, styles and genres of Yiddish song vary enormously: from intimate unaccompanied folk songs to the marches of resistance movements, from elaborate art songs to witty and snappy theater hits. In this workshop, we’ll explore a different genre each day, working on both the music and the meaning of songs in Yiddish culture.

For beginning through advanced singers. Some prior experience with Yiddish song helpful, but not necessary.
